We Talk of Christ

And we talk of Christ 2Nephi 25:26                                                                          July 23, 2012

Dear Family and Friends,

This week has been and interesting week. We have been asked to focus on "Lead Indicators". This is to say rather than set a goal for something that is an outcome, you set a goal for an action that you have complete control over. For example rather than say, "I will teach 20 lessons this week." You would say, "I will identify 30 contacts that I will ask to give a lesson to this week." That way if there is a week that everyone tells you no, you can still achieve your goal. A "Lag Indicator" is what happened. A "Lead Indicator" is a measurable goal that does not depend on someone else. The power to achieve the goal is totally in your hands. It doesn't depend on anyone else. They did studies to find what leads to success. On average here for every 20 people who start the lessons three are baptized. So, to have a baptism each month, we need to find 7 new people to teach each month. We have been very successful setting goals that are totally within our control.

We meet almost monthly in Fresno with all the Senior Couples. We have a meeting and dinner. The picture we are using for this week is at a meeting at a church house with the Rowlands. He was Sister Sheffer's Biology teacher and Taylor Duncan's Wrestling coach at Orem High. It isn't from this week, but we haven't changed much since it was taken. (At least as far as looks go.)

And we talk of Christ, we rejoice in Christ, we preach of Christ, we prophesy of Christ, and we write according to our prophecies, that our children may know to what source they may look for a remission of their sins. 2 Nephi 25:26

We have two dates for baptism that we would love your prayers and thoughts on. Richard and Jenny Stanley are quitting smoking so Richard can be baptized on August 2nd. Paula Rice has a date of August 18th. These are wonderful times, but that doesn't make them easy. One lady we are teaching said, "The devil doesn't go to the bars and night clubs, he already has that crowd. He's working hard on me and my family… He has a fight on his hands."

Remember, "There is more with us than with them." 2 Chronicles 32:7

                                    Love you all,

                                    Sister & Elder Sheffer
