Dear Friends and Family,
We had a great experience visiting with family yesterday. Bert has a program that he uses for work that allows him to skype or conference call with many people. We were able to have conversation with the whole family and see almost everyone at the same time. It was wonderful to see little Lizzy walking and little Eiden using a walker to get around. Bert is doing well at his new job though it is stressful at times. Nicholas and Alan are taking their families to Texas to sell sincerity systems for the summer. Merrill is enjoying his IT translating job and is learning to do things quickly. When we were visiting he was on a train and in Japan no one talks on the phone especially during rush hour, it is considered very rude, so he was instant messaging. Sarah had a transfer just before Mother's Day so she had to change the time to skype. She is doing well and learning so much.
We had an amazing surprise for our Preparation day this week. Grandma Duncan came for a visit with Esther and Bekky. Grandma has been in the hospital three times in the past two weeks with heart troubles and water in her lungs. To their surprise the doctor cleared her to travel on Friday afternoon and they left to go to California on Saturday. Grandma looked through her lifer list and found that there were three woodpeckers she hadn't seen that were in California. They were the Red Sapsucker, Nettles, and White Headed woodpeckers. They found the Red sapsucker on Sunday in Nevada. In Visalia we found the Nettles. It lives in oak trees and they are protected by law here. They sent us a text telling us they just found the White Headed Woodpecker in the mountains an hour or so south of us on their way to see Stephanie in Long Beach.
It was such a blessing to see them all. We also came home to a beautiful bouquet of flowers at the doorstep sent by Merrill and Meg who live in Japan. We also had cards from other family members. Thank you for thinking of me. Family is so very important.
Elder Sheffer had a brilliant idea. He was able to borrow a wheelchair for grandma to use so she wouldn't get to tired. Then he thought it would be great to put the wheelchair on the bike rack we just put on our car and take photos of a "Senior missionary's car" and a "Young missionary's car." The pictures turned out great.
We are so grateful for your encouragement and support. We love to hear from you. We know that living the gospel brings true joy and happiness.
God Bless You!Elder and Sister Sheffer
