Evening in Paris

                                                                                                            February 12, 2012

Dear Family and Friends,

It is Sunday night and we are taking it easy. What does that mean? It is 8:00pm and we are writing a letter instead of out visiting. We had a wonderful baptism of a young man who has wanted to be baptized for over six months now.  He grew up with two friends. One was LDS and the other was baptized a year ago.  He was so excited. The young Elders asked us to speak right after the baptism, while they changed into dry clothes. This was a last minute request.  Elder Sheffer was in tears most of the time. The turnout for the baptism was huge.

Saturday the Visalia Stake hosted "An Evening in Paris," for the adults in the stake. It was spectacular.  They had 550 people there and they had to use most of the classrooms to seat all of the people. The decorations reminded us of a Christmas party we did once at home.  One of our sweet investigators gave Sister Sheffer a dress to wear and did her hair. There were many investigators there and we enjoyed seeing so many members from across the stake in one place.

We have a tri zone activity tomorrow. It will be here in Visalia. The primary children in each ward made ten Valentines for the missionaries so they could have mail, which we know all missionaries love, and a Valentine. There will be about 50 missionaries there. It will be fun to see them all.

We know that the Lord is watching over us all and he will guide and direct us in our paths. We love you all and pray for you. When we had our mission president interviews this week he said he was late because of a phone call. It was E. Todd Christopherson of the Seventy and the president asked if he had anything to say to the missionaries in Visalia. "Yes," he said. "Tell them we (the brethren) were in the temple today and we prayed for them and we know that they pray for us. We see them as our companions. The missionaries are the companions and the Apostles." What great work this is.

God be with all of you.   Elder and Sister Sheffer
