Missionaries focus on people

Missionaries focus on people

Dear Friends and Family,

With Gaile's Mother and two of her sisters coming last Monday we wrote the letter a little late. So, the bird watching was talked about in the last letter. However, there was a story that merits mentioning. We borrowed a wheelchair and made Grandma Duncan ride it bird watching. Elder Sheffer pushed the chair most of the time. The Saint John's River Parkway Trail is on top of the dike that follows the river. There are some parts where we were a little nervous because of the steep sides. We were almost to the end of the trail when we saw some awesome birds. We turned the chair so grandma could see the birds and lifted our binoculars to get a better look. Then Elder Sheffer panicked! The wheelchair took off with Grandma Duncan in it. He was able to catch up to her before she got to the fence, and luckily that wasn't the spot where the trail dropped off steeply. Thus the title of the letter for this week. Missionaries need to focus on people, not the scenery or distractions that fly by. We can't let go of the Iron Rod. (or the handles to the wheelchair.)

We taught early morning seminary all week this week and we will do half of next week. It has taken all of our study time to get ready. They are sharp kids and it has been fun. It is teaching at seven in the morning and we have to be ready. That means that we are up sometime before six and don't get to bed till ten thirty. The young missionaries are expected to teach 20 lessons a week. This week we got 25 lessons. It is amazing how it all fit together for us. We have been blessed to exhaustion every day this week.

Next week we have two zone meetings. One on Tuesday and one on Friday. We are also going to the temple on Thursday, so we won't have the huge lesson count this week. We love you all.

Happy Birthday to Grandma Sheffer Today! If you want to come visit us we will push you in a wheelchair along the Saint John's River Trail and see some great sights. We will try to focus on people.
