Best Birthday

January 19, 2012

Dear Friends and Family,
So, I was on Skype with Merrill and he wished me a happy birthday and asked how is was for me. I said it was the best birthday ever. I went on to explain all the things we did. First, Stephanie my sister sent us gift cards for a food store, Food Co.. The closest store is in Tulare a small town about 12 miles from our apartment. We called and got the okay to go there and while there visited a lady who is in a nursing home from the sixth ward. We were just about finished with our visit when the phone rang and it was an investigator who was having a family crisis.
We jumped in the car and returned to Visalia without doing our shopping. We will go again next week. After talking and praying with the investigator we grabbed something to eat and headed to our 4:00 appointment. This was a inactive young adult sister who we had met at the UPS store when we were sending packages at Christmas time. She had invited her boy friend and roommate to visit with us. We visited and set up an appointment to return. The boy friend and roommate are non- members. The roommate is a nanny for  Richard Radmacher's  grandchildren. Bro. Radmacher uses to take David around on splits during his first mission. Bro. Radmacher is in the singles branch presidency and knows this young lady.
We were flying high and drove to Lemoore, a 45 minute drive out of our zone to visit with Annette Alvarez Avila. The step-mother of  Teri we told you about. She opened the door and said to David, I remember you." She invited us in and in the kitchen was her daughter Terri Reese that we have been wanting to visit with for months. Annette told her that we were going to visit, so Terri drove down from Visalia to see us, (we are having dinner with her family next Tuesday). We listened to the CD with the song and Annette said she had been trying to remember the song for some time now. She shared her testimony with us and invited us to visit again. We returned about 10:30pm. It was a long but happy day.
Merrill said, You are crazy. Alan would want to go to an amusement park, Nick would want to eat out. But you think the perfect birthday is to run all over serving people all day long." I said, "That is exactly right. It was the best birthday ever."
We also helped with an Eagle project at the lake making fish habitats on Saturday. I was in a boat just as long as it took to take a picture.
Bless You   Elder and Sister Sheffer
