Blue Berries

Dear Family and Friends,                                                                                                                              June 4, 2012

This week has been a little difficult for lessons. There have been cancelations and other requests for our time and service. We also had an amazing Stake Conference.

Memorial Day started with the scouts in the 6th ward having a pancake breakfast. I wasn't interested in the pancakes until I saw that they were blue berry and the blue berries were not the "real artificial type that comes in the pancake mix. These were fresh picked. They were mixed into the batter and more fresh berries on top. Bro. Woolley donated them. He is the financial officer for a company who supplies one third of the world's blue berries. I was in heaven.

We helped with moving members. It reminded me of the years David was an Elder's quorum president. It was over a hundred degrees and the missionaries were sweating and covered in dust. One elder even took off his tie. I am now realizing why the sweet people here are always offering us drinks when we visit. The heat can be dangerous.

Sister Sutton shared with us, after the missionaries helped move her furniture. She is the director of the planetarium where we went as a zone on preparation day to see a star show. At the end of the presentation we sang "Called to Serve" as a thank you. Sister Sutton said that the young man who did the show for us put his head down and we were hoping we hadn't offended him. She told us that latter he said, "I felt something so strong and I didn't know what to do." She explained to him that the missionaries had dedicated two years or eighteen months to serving the Lord and he was feeling the Holy Ghost. The next day he was out filming with another member of the church and they talked about the gospel. She had called him Brother and he said he was an honorary Mormon. They have been working with him for three years now and he is learning so much about the Gospel.

We helped with a funeral and several blessings. It was a sweet testimony building experience to be at the right place at the right time or make a phone call when someone was praying for help.  We are working hard to be in tune with the spirit.

At stake conference we had an area 70 come. It was Elder Hayne. He spoke of the brethren not calling about missionary work but of Gathering Israel. He told the members that their part was to get to know non-members and invite them into their homes. One stake president called members to be friend three couples as their church calling and when the couples asked about the church to answer their question and change the subject. One of the couples finally said. "Why do you always change the subject when we ask you about your church? Two of the couples were baptized. Our mission president admonished the members to help in this great rescue. We have a lot of work to do.

Okay the most exciting thing for Elder Sheffer is, HE PICKED HIS FIRST TOMATOE. He has been waiting for this moment all his life. He was able to win the contest against Grandma Duncan. We know there is no different between here and Utah, right? The prophet has told us to "grow where we are planted." When we do that we have to live with what happens, good and bad. There was another miracle for Elder Sheffer. While vacuuming he found a pen on the floor.  He was clear across the big room from the desk. He looked and saw it was a clear shot. But either the spirit or some movement that may have caught his eye made him look more closely. Sis Sheffer was under the desk cleaning and came up about the same time the pen would have been sailing through the air. So, listening to the spirit can save you a lot of trouble!

We are off to a double zone sports activity. We love you all so much.

God Bless You Elder and Sister Sheffer
