In the Lord's Time

June 11, 2012
Dear Family and Friends,
We are now officially working with the Exeter Ward. It is about a 20 minute drive from here. It is a smaller ward and the area it covers is huge. We met a man who is now retired from laying carpets. Not just any carpet. He traveled the world laying carpets for the church building and especially the temples. His name is Mike Rogers. He told us that in Korea the large trucks could only be on the roads at night between 11pm and 2am. He was worried because the carpet had not come for the temple and they had been waiting four days. He then said, I then reminded myself that this was the Lord's church and everything would work out and it did. He said miracles happened over and over again. Many times the carpet would arrive, which had been precut by computers and he would realize that he needed three feet more of a curtain carpet and when it was unrolled the extra would be there.
Two years ago they had a tragedy here when a man entered the church on Conyer and Tulare and shot the bishop. Bro. Rogers took charge of the carpet that needed to be replaced since others had been told there was no way the carpet could be found or delivered that quickly. Bro. Roger's with his strong faith called the carpet company and not only was the carpet delivered it was done free of charge.
It is amazing how things happen in the Lord's time. Sometimes it happens quickly and other times it seems to take forever. We were finishing the week and realized that we had taught a lesson to a part member family. Okay, that doesn't seem so amazing until you know that we have been visiting the family since November. So, this week was the first time we actually taught a lesson. It is in the Lord's time. It only took eight months to teach the first lesson.
We will be helping with youth conference. We have built another water balloon sling shot and we will be filling 1200 water balloons. We are excited. This week we helped to sign up a young man from a part member family to go to this activity. It took some doing but when we got the call saying he would go we were so happy.
They are having a week long Cub Scout activity. They asked members to donate ties that the cub scouts could make into snakes as part of the jungle theme. They needed 200 ties. When the collecting was finished they had 400 ties, so they gave the others to our zone. It is so funny to see how excited the Elders are about ties. But then again that is the only thing they have to change their outfits. Sister Sheffer has a hard time figuring out how to change up her wardrobe. It must be boring for the Elders. (You can tell Sister Sheffer is writing this letter. Elders don't care about changing their outfits or what the Senior Missionaries wear.)
We love hearing the news from home. Thanks for the newsletters, emails, and skypes. The pictures this week are different. If you want to visit we have an air matress and a CPap machine to blow it up with. The other picture we took on a back road in Visalia. We are not sure, but we think it is a missionary car from the last missionaries who tried to visit that family. Even though it wasn't a VW it made us think of Nicholas. Then in Downtown Exeter we found the VW repair shop. At least that's what we think it was.

God Bless, Elder and Sister Sheffer
