Easter and Service

April 9, 2012

Dear Family and Friends,

We had a wonderful week. We were able to meet many new people on the Visalia 2nd ward.  As we reported to the ward mission leader he said we were able to visit with some people who four sets of missionaries haven't been able to contact. We feel that these are sweet tender mercies (miracles).

We also have a lady we have been teaching who received permission from the bishop to be re-baptized.  We asked her who she would like to do the baptism and she said Bro. Weibell. We thought it was a brother in the 1st ward but it was his father who had been her home teacher many years ago.  The Bro. Weibell we know is married to one of Richard Rodmacher's daughter (the man Elder Sheffer did missionary work with 35 years ago).  The other Bro. Weibell is the father and he lives in Orem. We found his phone number on the internet and called. He was so honored and excited to be asked to do the baptism. We just need to work out the details. It is so amazing how things fit together.

Elder Sheffer and I have decided to live as close to the young missionary schedule as possible. We wanted to be totally obedient as the missionaries put it, but we are realizing that we are asked to do things that the younger missionaries are not asked to do, like teach lessons at 8:30 in the morning and teach seminary at 7:00am, and teach lessons that start at 10:30pm for someone who is just getting off work. We are hoping to receive blessings for doing what we can. There is always room for improvement.

We had a wonderful Easter and were able to enjoy lunch and dinner with two families. We had Mexican pork carna asda cooked in a copper pot with orange and lemon juice.  The other with ham deviled egg and cherry pie. We have so much fun with the different cultures here.

For missionary work we bought some plastic eggs and inside each one we put a wrapped treat and an inspired question. An example would be, "How can I avoid sin?" or "What is the purpose of life."  We made up 24 or so of these for ourselves and other companionships. We had fun using the eggs to start conversations. We hope to hear from the other missionaries how this approach worked for them.

We are so grateful to be in service of our fellowmen and in that way being in the service of our God. (Mosiah 2:17).   We love you all.
