Sister Sheffer declines

Dear Friends and Family,

This week we were once again asked to be of service. We've talked in Sacrament Meetings, 3rd hour joint meetings, firesides, and home evenings. If we are asked to do it we jump at the chance.

We have an investigator that was moved from the hospital to one of its satellite buildings. We were inspired to go look for her at a specific time. How do we know? We found another Part member family that we have been trying to get with signing up for an operation for the next day. The non-member was having the operation. We asked if we could come by their house later and give him a blessing. He agreed. We called and found someone to go with us. He brought his wife and another priesthood holder. I explained what a blessing was and the parts to it. I told him he could pick who did each part. He said "Okay, I want Brother Ruiz to anoint and Sister Sheffer to seal the anointing." Sister Sheffer declined. She had Elder Sheffer take her place after a few more words of instruction.

Sister Sheffer has always been a listener. People are always telling us how much it means to them that we care. Elder Sheffer can't walk down a hallway without losing his companion. Someone is always stopping Sister Sheffer for a conversation. Where is she? Always in the crowd of people or off to the side with one that needs a little more or special attention.

James Chapter 1:

25 But whoso looketh into the perfect law of liberty, and continueth therein, he being not a forgetful hearer, but a doer of the work, this man shall be blessed in his deed.

26 If any man among you seem to be religious, and bridleth not his tongue, but deceiveth his own heart, this man's religion is vain.

27 Pure religion and undefiled before God and the Father is this, To visit the fatherless and widows in their affliction, and to keep himself unspotted from the world.

This week we visited several members in the rest homes and convalescent centers. Many have such wonderful knowledge and great testimonies. They want so much to keep going and doing. One non-member we visited has decided to be baptized. He is in his 80's. He will be one of those "last hour laborers." But first we are trying to get him to marry his girlfriend. We have the date set for May 15.

We have one member who was sent home to die. He has cancer. He is now a skeleton of a man. When we came by he said in his week voice, "Elder and Sister Sheffer, it is so good to see you!" You could tell he meant it. We were there to comfort him, but he was still serving us. When we were ready to leave he said, "Elder and Sister Sheffer, is there anything I can do for you?" We knew that if we would have asked for anything, he would have made it his quest to fulfill that need before he died. We were deeply touched. He barely had enough strength to lift his arm.

We attended Cinco de Mayo in the Spanish branch. They had some great activities and food. They also worked with us on starting their genealogy worksheets to get ready for the temple. They will be going next month. They had a ping pong ball cup activity that was awesome. We'll add the pictures. We also want to send some pictures of our garden.

The Church is true! What about you?

Love you,

Elder and Sister Sheffer
