Christ was Love

Christ was Love                                                                                                                 December 2, 2012

Dear Family and Friends,

We are now once again in the Christmas season. What a time of wonderful colors and spiritual awareness. We attended the First Presidency's Christmas Devotional this evening. We have a living prophet who speaks the words of God. What a wonderful blessing.

We had Christmas Dinner, Dinner Saturday. We served at the 1st Ward and Sister Sheffer ate there. Elder Sheffer munched a little. Then off to the 3rd Ward where Elder Sheffer ate and Sister Sheffer munched a little. We are not as young as we used to be or we could have had a big dinner at both places. Both did send us home with leftovers. We will have some great meals. We haven't passed around our dinner calendar for a few weeks, so we are pretty much on our own now for that.

We have had one person we are teaching accept a baptismal date for December. We are trying to help him quit smoking. Smoking has to be the hardest addiction to overcome. We have seen many overcome addictions, but the tobacco has got to be the hardest we have encountered.

This Friday we were able to go to the temple with Sarah Browning to do baptisms for the dead. She has been a member for less than a week. She was able to overcome her smoking addiction to be baptized. But the week following baptism was not easy. She had a very serious mouth infection and was in the ER three times. Through it all she was still very determined to use her newly acquired temple recommend on Friday. She is incredible.  She is so excited about the gospel.

We have been blessed with much rain. Elder Sheffer continues to say, It never rained here on my first mission." One morning we were in the car and the thermometer said it was 68 degrees and we were wondering what the temperature was in Utah, so we called Time and Temperature. It said it was 58 degrees and raining. What, we thought to ourselves, that doesn't sound like Utah weather in December. We hope you are enjoying the rain and happy that you are not shoveling the white stuff. J

There is a story about a school that was singing Christmas songs. One class sang, "Christmas Love" for their song. They had the students hold up letters that spelled out Christmas Love. The child that held up the M held it upside down. Thus the words said, "Christ was Love" instead of "Christmas Love".

                Christ truly is Love.

                                Love you all,

                                                Elder and Sister Sheffer
